BAWA Held Annual General Body Meeting On January 23rd 2010 In Cupertino
Burmese American Women's Alliance (BAWA) held its Annual General Body Meeting on January 23rd 2010 in Cupertino, California.
BAWA Information and Technical Support officer, Sean ( Khin Hlaing Soe) acted as the master of ceremony. Vice President Daw Aye Aye Maw welcomed the members and guests to the 2010 AGM. Next, BAWA President Daw Mabel Tun presented BAWA background information, the organization's mission. She also updated the audience with 2009 BAWA events and activities. The main event for 2009 was Daw Aung San Suu Kyi's 64th birthday celebration in Fremont. Mayor of Fremont Bob Wassermann attended that event at Metta Nanada Vihra Buddhist Temple.
Through out 2009, BAWA had participated and supported many fund raising events organized by other Burmese organizations in the area. In addition, BAWA families also volunteered at San Jose soup kitchens on two occasions during the month of June and dedicated their good deeds to Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in honor of her birthday.
The financial report was presented by the treasurer Ma Nandi Kyaw Min. After that the Secretary, Myat Ohn shared the planed activities for 2010.
Next, Yasmin Vanya presented the proposed bylaws changes regarding membership status, Voting rights and eligibility to run for an election (for 2011). All members cast the votes and changes were approved. For details of the bylaws changes, please contact one of the EC members.
Election committee consists of U Richard Aung Myint, U Sein Tun and U Nyunt Than. The names of the members, who wished to be elected, were posted on the white board.
Election was held under the watchful eyes of the election committee.
Daw Htay Htay Kyi who was a founding member who was part of the group who worked on the original bylaws, explained that according to BAWA bylaws, the board is elected first. The Board can appoint or hire EC members. Any member or even a non-member can be hired and appointed to a EC position.

Newly elected BOD met quickly and Daw Mabel Tun was nominated to serve as the President for the next term.
